Are golf carts street legal in North Carolina?
A standard golf cart (top speed 20 mph or less) is not street legal statewide in North Carolina. Cities and counties may allow golf carts on roads posted 35 mph or less by local ordinance. A low-speed vehicle (LSV) that meets federal safety standards can be registered, insured, and driven on roads posted 35 mph or less.
What is the difference between a golf cart and an LSV?
In North Carolina, a golf cart tops out at 20 mph, while a low-speed vehicle (LSV) is a four-wheeled vehicle with a top speed over 20 and under 25 mph. LSVs must meet federal safety standard FMVSS 500 and can be titled, tagged, and insured for street use. Every cart we sell is street ready, and LSVs are our specialty.
What equipment does a street-legal LSV need in North Carolina?
North Carolina requires headlamps, stop lamps, turn signals, tail lamps, reflex reflectors, a parking brake, rearview mirrors, a windshield and wipers, a speedometer, seat belts, and a VIN. It must also be registered and insured.
Where can I drive an LSV in North Carolina?
On streets posted 35 mph or less. You may cross a faster road at an intersection. NCDOT can prohibit LSVs on specific roads for safety.
Are golf carts and LSVs street legal in South Carolina?
Yes, with rules. An LSV that meets FMVSS 500 may drive on roads posted 35 mph or less and cross faster roads at intersections. A golf cart needs an SCDMV permit decal, registration, and liability insurance; without a local ordinance it may run only in daylight, on secondary roads posted 35 mph or less, within 4 miles of its registered address. Local rules can differ.
Do you offer golf cart financing?

Can I trade in my golf cart?
Yes. We take gas and electric carts of any make toward a new street-legal cart or LSV. Your trade equity can go toward your financing, and if you still owe on your cart, we handle the payoff.
Do you buy golf carts?
Yes. Send us photos and details on our Sell Your Golf Cart page. A title is not required. Non-running carts are sometimes accepted, depending on the cart.
Do you offer warranties or service contracts on golf carts?
Yes. We offer Cart Guard service contracts built for golf carts and LSVs: the Protection Bundle ($899), Cart Care Bundle ($699), Lifetime Battery ($249), and a service contract for carts over $25,000 retail ($849). Coverage can be added to your financing.
Can I get Cart Guard coverage if I bought my cart somewhere else?
Yes, if the cart is eligible: new carts up to the current model year plus one, and used carts up to 7 model years old.
Do you service golf carts?
Yes. We service all electric golf cart brands. Our specialties are lithium battery conversions and LSV conversions.
Do you deliver golf carts?
Yes. Local delivery is $75 to $150. Beyond our local area we'll give you a quote, and nationwide delivery is available once your purchase is fully funded.
Where are Queen City Carts locations?
We have four: Mount Holly (107 Henderson St, Mount Holly, NC), Charlotte (8812 Wilkinson Blvd, Charlotte, NC), Lake Norman (2569 N NC 16 Business Hwy, Denver, NC), and Lake Wylie (4376 Charlotte Hwy, Lake Wylie, SC).
What are your hours?
Mount Holly is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Saturday, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday by appointment. Charlotte, Lake Norman, and Lake Wylie are open Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed Sunday.
