The Fort Mill Christmas Village and Tree Lighting is Thursday, December 3, 5 to 8 PM at the Fort Mill Amphitheater in Walter Elisha Park, 345 N. White St (Town of Fort Mill). Tega Cay’s Lighting of the Tree is also December 3, with Letters to Santa all month (City of Tega Cay). Golf cart rules
In South Carolina, a golf cart with an SCDMV permit decal can drive secondary roads posted 35 mph or less, in daylight, within 4 miles of home, with a licensed driver 16 or older and liability insurance (SC Code 56-2-105). Tega Cay goes further: under Ordinance 602, a permitted golf cart may run day or night inside city limits on streets posted 35 mph or less and on the multiuse trails, with headlights and taillights on from dusk to dawn (City of Tega Cay). That makes the Tega Cay tree lighting a perfect ride. Fort Mill’s Christmas Village runs after dark, so outside Tega Cay plan on a street-legal LSV.
Golf cart decorating tips
- Use battery powered LED string lights or lights rated for your cart’s 12 volt accessory power, and zip tie them to the roof frame, not the steering column.
- Keep the driver’s view, mirrors, pedals and lights clear, and check that nothing hangs low enough to catch a wheel.
- Wreaths on the front cowl, garland along the roof and a lit sign on the back seat read great from the curb.
- Charge fully the night before. Lights, music and slow parade speeds drain lead acid batteries fast, which is one more reason owners move to a lithium golf cart battery conversion.
- Follow the parade rules on throwing candy. Most parades here ban it, so hand it out at the curb instead.
