Life on a golf cart in Kings Mountain
Patriots Park is the heart of the town calendar. Live local music fills the gazebo every Thursday night in May and September, LIVE at Patriots Park runs through the summer, and the Mountaineer Days Heritage Festival and the NC BeachBlast Festival bring big crowds. In the fall, downtown hosts the Great Pumpkin Parade, and December brings Christmas in Kings Mountain on three Saturdays downtown and at the park.
For dinner, 133 West on West Mountain Street serves modern Southern food with live music on its patio stage on Friday nights. The Kings Mountain Gateway Trail starts on South Battleground Avenue and runs more than five miles toward downtown for walkers and bikers, and Kings Mountain Country Club has golf and the Crow’s Nest restaurant.
Moss Lake, on the Kings Mountain and Shelby line, has 57 miles of shoreline, 10 public boat ramps and fishing tournaments all year, so plenty of lake folks keep a golf cart for the trip from the house to the dock.
Kings Mountain golf cart rules in plain English
Kings Mountain allows golf carts on permitted city streets under its golf cart ordinance (Chapter 74). Golf carts are not allowed on NC 216, Piedmont Avenue, Battleground Avenue, Grover Road, King Street, Shelby Road, Kings Mountain Boulevard and several other main roads, except during an authorized parade or special event when the street is closed. Phifer Road is off limits during school drop off and pick up hours. Permit stickers are sold at City Hall, drivers must be 16 and licensed, and passengers under 16 must wear seatbelts. In daylight a golf cart needs a slow moving vehicle sign and rearview mirrors, and after sunset it also needs headlights, taillights and turn signals (Shelby Star). Need a route on one of the excluded roads? An LSV may be required there, and we will help you figure out which you need. See our street-legal LSV conversion.
Get your permit: Kings Mountain permit stickers ($20 a year, July 1 to June 30) use the city application form with proof of insurance and a photo of your golf cart. Pick one up at City Hall or call Inspections and Codes at 704-734-4599 (permit rules, Section 74.03).
We can install the mirrors, lights, turn signals and seatbelts the city requires, so your golf cart is ready for the permit sticker.
